DAY 3: God Offers Real Life

“But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

John 20:31, ESV

In John’s Gospel (chapter 20-21), we see real life encounters with Jesus and his disciples. He eats with them, he talks with them, he comforts them, he teaches them, and I imagine he laughs with them too!  He didn’t appear to them after his death as a ghost but as a human with an earthly body as he had before. His resurrected body had hands, to show doubting Thomas the wounds from the nails; he would make a meal for his disciples in one setting and in another ask for what food they had on hand. Jesus offered a real-life relationship with his followers, the same as God offers us today. The offer is the greatest of news - that this life is eternal. It’s a relationship that carries into eternity. All the days and hours of prayer will come to a halt when we are with the Lord in heaven (2 Corinthians 5:8). God offers a relationship that promises to give abundant life (John 10:10) here and now, and then and there. This life that God wants to offer is a life that helps you and me right now, and it guarantees a relationship that last forever. This life only comes through the name of Jesus. Not any other way.

In times like these we need to realize that the greatest threat to our life isn’t the COVID-19 virus. Our greatest threat is the virus of sin. Sin is the worst and deadliest virus that has entered the world. It entered through one man, Adam, and yet through one man, Jesus, he provides the cure. While sin has infected and affected everything and everyone (Romans 8:20-23, Romans 3:23), Jesus came to offer life and a remedy to sin.  He says to you today, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live” (John 11:25).

There is life in Jesus. That’s the greatest hope we have in hard times. Believe in Jesus and you will find life in and through him alone.
