Expect God’s Greater Reward
DAY 5 - Expect God’s Greater Reward
Ephesians 6:7–8, ESV
...Knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free.
The Apostle Paul tells us that we can expect God’s greater reward. This ought to raise the standard of what you are working for! While many of us are motivated by good compensation, flexible work hours, and space, many others are motivated simply by positive uplifting work environments where there is a sense of purpose and peace in the workplace. God offers both. If the Christian does a good job in this life, he will not only hear the words spoken by Jesus: “Well done my good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21), but also he is promised by Jesus to be rewarded in some way with treasures as one invests his treasures on earth. So, the saying is true, you can’t take it with you, but you can send it ahead!
The concept of reward is all throughout the New Testament. In Colossians 3:24, we read, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” And in Hebrews, we read that God rewards those who seek him!
The bottom line is that God knows that rewards are helpful for motivation. He not only gives us the promised Holy Spirit but the promised rewards in heaven. In Corinthians 5:10, we learn about the Christians’ Judgment Day. It’s the day each believer will have to undergo an exhaustive evaluation of how one used his or her 90,000 hours of work and more on this planet. Jesus won’t whip the losers, but he will reward the winners of life. The scripture says, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” This isn’t about salvation, for we are saved by God’s grace. This about sanctification. Did you live a life of holiness when all is said and done? Jesus will reward every unseen act. Every prayer, every financial gift made, every hour of service rewarded. Even a cup of cold water given will be rewarded! Jesus said. “And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”
Are you living in such a way that you are confident you will receive rewards in heaven? Here’s how you can be sure. You’re giving: you’re giving your time to serve and go the extra mile at church, home, and work, your money to help ministry, and your witness to share about Jesus others, by telling your testimony or inviting others to church! These are the things God loves to reward.
