Generous Wisdom

[5] If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all
without reproach, and it will be given him (James 1:5)

Do you love to give? Is giving gifts easy for you? Do you know anyone who you would consider a real giver? Someone who just loves to selflessly give of their time, talents, money, or resources?

Aren’t people like this a joy to spend time with? Do they make you feel loved and cared for?
Maybe this is your Mom or Dad, or a grandma or grandpa, or maybe it’s just a close friend or
leader at your church.
These human relationships are important but in our text today we learn that the most
selfless giver of all is God! He loves to give. He is the opposite of stingy. Our verse today tells
us that he gives and gives generously.
But his giving has a specific content. He doesn’t just give randomly. He wants to give us
what is best for us. One of the best things that he can give to us is wisdom. He tells us that we
can come to him as often as we want and ask for greater wisdom and he will give it to us with the generous heart of a loving Father. It’s a promise from God that if we need wisdom on how to
live our lives for his greatest glory, he will give us the wisdom we need to help us in whatever
situation we find ourselves in. Isn’t that a great promise?!

Our Father, thank you that you promise to be a lavish giver to those who come to you in faith.
We need wisdom from you to navigate our lives for your greatest glory. Help us please. Apart
from you we can do nothing. Thank you that you have revealed in your word the path of greatest
wisdom. May we cling to your word and follow your ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
