Day 2 – Rely On God’s Power

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

Ephesians 6:10

Last year, we replaced my old SUV with a newer truck. For weeks I was driving around and my phone would die. I just never took the time to get a charging cable for my phone to plug into my vehicle.

One day my daughter was riding with me and heard me complain about how my phone was about to die, and she said, “Why don’t you use your wireless power station?” I said, say what? What’s that?

She took my phone, set it onto the tray by my center console, and voila!  There was power!!!! I had no clue! I was riding around all those weeks, my phone was dying, I couldn’t communicate, I was frustrated, and my phone lost power many times. That’s a great picture of the Christian life. We are so unaware of the power source we have in the Lord.

If we are to be strong, we must rely on God’s power first and foremost. This was the prayer of the Apostle Paul. In Ephesians 3:14-16, he said, “I bow my knees before the Father... that he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being.”

God offers power through his Holy Spirit. It’s a dynamic surge of power that is not natural. It’s supernatural, and the Holy Spirit is the ever-present power supply. This why Paul would say as well, “You need to be filled with the spirit to experience this kind of power” (Ephesians 5:18).  God’s heart is to see each Christian live for God’s glory, gathering, growing, and going out to share and show the love of Christ. But we can’t do it without the power of God working within us. As the Apostle Paul said,

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (Ephesians 3:20–21).

Whose power are you relying on? Yours? Or God’s?

Be strong in the Lord, not yourself or your own will power. He will renew you and help you in your time of need. He’s the ever-present power source you need to make it through tough times.
