The Good News and Good Works of Jesus

THE PASSAGE 

John 10:31–39, ESV 

THE GOOD NEWS AND GOOD WORKS OF JESUS  

1. Some people hate to hear about the good news of Jesus.  

John 3:20, Psalm 51:5, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23 

2. Many people love the good works of Jesus. 

John 7:3, John 6:15, Luke 23:8  

3. Sometimes people need to see more of the good works of Jesus before they are ready to hear more of the good news of Jesus. 

Matthew 5:16, Ephesians 2:10, Acts 1:8 

WHAT ARE SOME GOOD WORKS THAT WE CAN DO TO HELP WIN PEOPLE TO CHRIST THROUGH OUR CHURCH?

1. Be an example to others | I Timothy 4:12 

2. Serve the kids and youth. | Mark 10:14 

3. Give to the poor and needy | Luke 12:33-34 

TALK IT OVER  

1. Ice Breaker - What is some good news that you’ve received lately?  Give God praise! Today we’re looking at the reactions to the Good News of Jesus and Good Works of Jesus.

2. Take a minute to read the passage.  John 10:31–39. *Note: You may want to review the chapter and share a brief overview in your own words before the passage is read* 

3. What stood out to you from the passage? Why? 

4. Take a minute to review the sermon program. What stood out to you and why? 

5. Why do you think some people hate to hear about the good news of Jesus?  

6. Take a few minutes to look up some of the passages and consider what they tell us about the state of mankind. Psalm 51:5, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23 

7. Throughout Jesus’ earthly ministry he was performing miracles. People loved these good works. (John 7:3, John 6:15, Luke 23:8) Why do you think that was? 

8. Sometimes people need to see more of our works before they hear more of our words about our faith? Why do you think that is?

9. What does God’s word tell us about good works? (Matthew 5:16, Ephesians 2:10) 

10. Pastor Ryan shared a few key areas good workers are needed. Take a minute to review them and discuss.

11. Which one of the calls to action was the most convicting? Which one are you already doing and find fulfilling?
