The Guts and Glory of Tithing

FIVE REASONS WHY EVERY CHRISTIAN SHOULD TITHE  

1. Tithing helps us to put first things first.  

Exodus 13:2, Exodus 23:19, Leviticus 27:30, Proverbs 3:9, Matthew 6:33, Exodus 20:8, Acts 20:7  

2. Tithes were required in the Old Testament.  

Leviticus 27:30, Deuteronomy 12:6, Number 18:26, Nehemiah 12:44, Malachi 3:8-10 

3. Tithes were expected and exceeded in the New Testament. 

Matthew 23:23, 2 Corinthians 8:1-7, Mark 12:41-44, Acts 2:45, Acts 4:34, John 12:1-8 

4. Tithes fund the ministries and missions.   

Matthew 28:19-20, Philippians 4:15, Luke 8:1-3, Matthew 27:57, John 3:1, John 19:39, I Timothy 6:17-18 

5. Tithes teach us to trust God for extraordinary provisions. 

Matthew 19:29, Proverbs 3:9-10, Malachi 3:8,10, 2 Corinthians 9:11-12 

TALK IT OVER 

 Ice Breaker - When you think of greed, what comes to mind? Who do you think of and why? What are some examples within movies? Does anyone recall the story of Scrooge?  

 1. What from the message stood out to you the most. Why?  

 2. Please take a minute to find what the Apostle Paul commanded the rich in his day to do. I Timothy 6:17-19. What does he say to do? What are the rewards of doing it?  

 3. According to the Bible? How much of your money do you think God owns? 1%-10% or 100%? See Haggai 2:8, Dt 8:18. 

 4. Have you ever given something financially as an act of worship and seen God bless you somehow? 

 5. Have you or anyone you know ever given sacrificially? Take a minute to share what this looks like in the NT. You can look up some or all of the passages. (2 Corinthians 8:1-7, Mark 12:41-44, Acts 2:45, Acts 4:34, John 12:1-8) 

 6. What kind of encouragement can we find to start tithing if we don’t already? Or what about sacrificial giving that's above and beyond?  

 7. What are some blessings in giving? What’s the Bible have to say? What are some principles we could apply to our life?… Mark 10:29-30, Proverbs 3:9-10, Malachi 3:8,10, Matthew 6:33.  

 8. What kind of person do you want to be and why? Generous or greedy? How can you grow into who you want to become? What are some steps may be the LORD is leading you to take? 

 9. Did you know the church has a 90-Day Tithing Challenge? Check it out on the website. www.northvalley.org  it’s in the giving section. Pastor Ryan said since they launched the challenge eight years ago, they have never had one person walk away disappointed! Rather everyone that completed it was excited and grateful for the challenge! If you haven't been tithing in the last six months, check it out! Remember, the Bible doesn't teach a prosperity theology, which teaches that being rich is a sign you’re a good Christian! Or that the more you give, God is somehow obligated to make you richer!  10. Pray for one another. Pray for the church! Pray that we all are faithful to invite others to church for Good Friday and Easter Sunday! We want everyone we know to hear about Jesus. His life, death, burial, and resurrection! He is life, and he offers it to the fullest. People must know! Let's invite them!
