September 26, 2024 Pastor: Ryan Rice Series: Living in Light of Christ's Return: Part 2
Topic: End Times Scripture: 2 Thessalonians 1:6–10
Talk It Over
1. When Jesus returns, what's the first funny or lighthearted question you'd want to ask Him?"
2. Sermon Review & Main Passage: Let’s review the sermon outline together. Now, read 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10 aloud. What is the key message in this passage?
3. What Stood Out? Reflecting on today’s sermon, what point or theme stood out to you the most, and why did it resonate with you?
4. Jesus Will Be Revealed (vs. 7, 10) How does the revelation of Jesus at His Second Coming impact the way you live today? (Read 1 Thessalonians 1:10, Matthew 25:31, and Exodus 13:21-22 for more insight.)
5. Jesus Will Repay (vs. 6, 7-9) Why is it important to trust that Jesus will bring justice? How does Romans 12:19 encourage us to respond to injustice? (Read Romans 12:19, Deuteronomy 32:35, and 2 Timothy 4:14.)
6. Jesus Wants People to Repent. In Luke 5:31-32, Jesus calls sinners to repentance. How does this shape your understanding of God’s grace and our mission? (Read Luke 5:31-32, Luke 13:3, and 2 Peter 3:9.)
7. Jesus Will Grant Relief (vs. 7) What does the concept of relief or “anesis” in this passage mean to you personally? How does this promise of future rest affect your hope in difficult times? (Consider the illustration of loosening a bowstring and Paul’s view on Rest at Christ’s Second Coming.)
8. Second Coming and Relief. What is the connection between the Second Coming of Christ and the relief believers will experience? How does Revelation 21:4 expand on this relief?
9. Jesus Will Be Revered (vs. 10) What does it mean for Jesus to be “glorified in His saints” and “marveled at among all”? (Read Philippians 3:21 and Colossians 3:4 for further reflection.)
10. Waiting on God’s Timing Psalm 27:14 tells us to “wait for the Lord.” What does it look like to wait on God’s timing in your own life? (Read Psalm 27:14, Isaiah 40:31, and Psalm 130:5.)
11. Trust He’s Just. How does knowing that God is just help you face challenges or injustice? How do Isaiah 30:18 and 2 Thessalonians 1:6 give you comfort? (Read Romans 12:19 and Isaiah 30:18.
12. Close with Prayer. Let’s pray for one another, asking for trust in God’s justice, patience in waiting on His timing, and boldness in sharing our faith. How can we encourage each other this week as we anticipate Christ’s return?
