BE A MIRROR, NOT A SPOTLIGHT

Acts 3:11–16, ESV

Peter Speaks in Solomon's Portico

11 While he clung to Peter and John, all the people, utterly astounded, ran together to them in the portico called Solomon's. 12 And when Peter saw it he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we have made him walk? 13 The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release him.14 But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, 15 and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. 16 And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all.

HOW TO LIVE LIKE A MIRROR, NOT A SPOTLIGHT

  1. Soak Up Some Son Shine

Isaiah 40:31

  1. Redirect and Reflect

Philippians 2:13, Matthew 5:16

  1. Let Another Man Praise You

Proverbs 27:2

TALK IT OVER QUESTIONS

Icebreaker:

Share about a time you accidentally stood out (like Pastor’s Ryan’s reflective  shoes moment). What happened?

  1. Why do you think people—especially believers—are tempted to step  into the spotlight?
  2. How can pride subtly creep into our serving, speaking, or giving?
  3. Read Acts 3:11–12. What can we learn from Peter’s response to attention?
  4. How does remembering that Jesus is “the Light of the world” change  how we view success? (John 8:12)
  5. What are practical ways to “redirect and reflect” glory back to God in  daily life?
  6. How can we “soak up some Son shine” during our week? What spiritual  disciplines help you stay reflective?
  7. How does self-promotion or comparison dim God’s glory in us?
  8. What does a “clean mirror” life look like for you right now?
  9. In what area do you need to step out of the spotlight and let Jesus  shine instead
  10. Close your group time by praying that your lives would reflect Jesus’ light into dark places this week.
