TALK IT OVER

Icebreaker Question: If your marriage or future marriage had a theme song, what would it be, and why? Share the title and dare to sing a few lyrics, if you can!

1. What stood out to you in this passage, and why?

2. Reflect on the concept of specialness in a marriage. How does Song of Songs 3:6-11 illustrate the specialness of the bride's relationship, and what can we learn from it? Can you think of other Bible verses that emphasize the idea of spouses cherishing each other as special? (Ephesians 5:33, Proverbs 5:18-19) How do these verses complement our understanding of specialness in marriage?

3. Discuss the idea of sacredness in marriage. How does Song of Songs 3:6-11 highlight the sacredness of the wedding procession, and what principles can we derive from it? Are there other Bible verses that stress the sacredness of marriage and the commitment it entails? (Hebrews 13:4, 1 Corinthians 7:14) How do these verses contribute to our understanding of the sacredness of marriage?

4. Holiness vs. Happiness.  Explore the idea of prioritizing holiness over happiness in relationships. Are there Bible verses that emphasize the importance of holiness in relationships, even when it requires sacrifice? (1 Peter 1:15-16, Matthew 6:33) How can these verses guide us in prioritizing holiness in our lives, regardless of our marital status?

5. Explore the importance of having safe and supportive friends in marriage. How does Song of Songs 3:6-11 hint at the presence of safe people in the couple's life, and what significance does it hold? Are there biblical examples of friendships that provided safety and support in challenging times? (Proverbs 18:24, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12). How can these examples guide us in cultivating safe friendships within our marriages and as singles?

6. Reflect on the concept of stewardship in marriage, including financial stewardship. How does the grand wedding procession in Song of Songs 3:6-11 relate to the idea of stewardship, and what can we learn? In Song of Songs 3:9-10, Solomon spared no expense in creating a special carriage for his bride. How can this extravagant gesture be a symbol of investing in a marriage? Can you share any personal experiences or ideas for investing in your own relationship, beyond just finances?

7. Reflecting on the concept of financial stewardship as a spiritual discipline, how do you think recognizing God's ownership of your financial resources can impact your marriage or future marriage?

8. Discuss the role of family support in marriage. How does Song of Songs 3:6-11 emphasize the support of family members? What lessons can we draw from it? Additionally, consider how the church can act as a family for believers. Can you think of a time when the church played a supporting role like a family for you? What does the Bible say about the church family?  (Romans 12:10, Galatians 6:23, 1 Timothy 3:15)
