Some Will Be Left Behind

41

Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming

Matthew 24:40–42, ESV

Have you ever been left behind? I can recall many times when I came home as a young kid and find out that all my siblings were gone! They just couldn’t wait, they had to go play! I would ask my parents, where they were. I hated to hear the terrible two words “They left!”

The Bible describes a time that will come when the rapture occurs that people will be literally left behind. Millions if not billions of believers will vanish from the planet earth without even a moment’s notice. People will come up with all sorts of crazy ideas. Maybe there were abducted by aliens? Maybe it’s some kind of government conspiracy and hoax. It won’t take too long for someone to say. Those two words, “They left.”

Jesus described this worldwide event by saying,  “Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left,  Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.”  (vs.41-42). Jesus' point is that not all will be raptured. The rapture is for all who believe and have received Jesus Christ as Lord. It will happen in an instant. People will be at work, and all of a sudden the believers in the room will vanish, moms will be at the grocery stores, shopping, kids at school playing on the playground, and then within an instant believers from all over the world will be raptured, rescued by Jesus from the coming wrath. (1 Thessalonians 1:10; 5:9)

WHAT ABOUT THOSE LEFT BEHIND?

Millions of people will be left on earth. The world will fall into a global crisis immediately. Stores, restaurants, factories, schools, and churches will be emptied of every believer. In a short period of time, the world will experience levels of trials and tribulations the world has never felt before.

Family members will call, text, or message their loved one, who mysteriously vanished, but there will be no response. They will be in heaven. All those that rejected Jesus Christ or never truly believed in him, will be left behind.  Despite God’s warning in the Scriptures, he will not abandon all those left behind. God’s word promises that 144,000 Jews will come to faith in Christ, realizing they had missed the Messiah and trust in Christ and go on to lead a worldwide evangelism campaign. Larger than anything Billy Graham or Luis Palau could ever imagine. And there will be 144,000 of these evangelists preaching the gospel of Jesus. Despite this terrible tribulation, millions upon millions of people will place their trust in Christ and God, experience salvation.
