King Jesus Forever

NVCC-ChristmasDevotionals-1280x720-V3

Scripture: His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven's Armies will make this happen! Isaiah 9:7 NLT

Consider: Herod tried to kill Jesus as a toddler. The rumor of a king being born in his small jurisdiction was too much. Yesterday we learned about his fear and fury. Today we learn about King Jesus’ reign forevermore. The Prophet Isaiah said that the Messiah’s kingdom would bring in peace, a peace that would have no end. This prophecy is fulfilled; from the time of Christ’s coming, the peace of God can rest in the hearts of man. Jesus is the peace for even the greatest conflict between good and evil. He is the conquering king. His rule has no end. It’s not simply his own commitment to accomplish this in our world but that of all of the armies of heavenly angels as well. Isaiah tells us that he will rule with fairness and justice, in contrast to King Herod’s rule. He ruled by tyranny, fear, and corruption. King Herod tried to put an end to Jesus, but God had other plans. Nothing would get in the way of Christ’s Kingdom. As we will read tomorrow, God also protected his Messiah by sending an angel to tell Joseph to leave Bethlehem, to escape the coming danger of Herod’s soldiers. God’s Kingdom is unstoppable. Even when Rome put Christ to death on a cross, three days later He rose again. Our King Jesus is forever. He didn’t come to earth as a good moral teacher, a little better than Buddha or Gandhi, and then die, leaving his followers on their own. He is alive today. He has risen! Jesus Christ sits at the right hand of the Father, and he will return one day to finish what he has started: establishing his Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.

Apply: Is Jesus the king of your heart? Who is on the throne? This week, actively rearrange a few things in your life to better reflect Christ is the King over your life. Maybe it’s giving, maybe it’s serving, or maybe it’s dedicating one day a week to God.

Pray: Lord, you are King. I submit to your lordship. Please come into my life right now and take up room in my heart. Be on the throne. I confess I have sinned against you and believe in Jesus as my King forever. Lead me, guide me in Jesus’ name, Amen!
